BYENVENI Curatorial Talk with Yvena Despagne

June 27, 6 pm8:30 pm.

In honor of Caribbean Heritage Month and Black Music Month, join us for a conversation with the BYENVENI exhibition curator, Yvena Despagne.

BYENVENI, CCCADI’s multimedia exhibition of Haitian Diasporic art, explores Haiti as both a cherished internal sanctuary preserving cultural traditions and religious practices, a space of refuge, a source of boundless joy, and the cornerstone of sovereignty.

Yvena will lead us in a discussion about BYENVENI alongside four featured exhibition artists: Metres Riva N. Precil, Fabiola Jean Louis, and Okai Musik (Oyasound). Each artist will share insights into their process of expression and their source of inspiration. The works that will be discussed are featured in the BYENVENI gallery areas of Lespri: The Concept of Vodou and Te Nou: The Concept of Preserving Haiti as an Internal Sanctuary.

BYENVENI will be on display at the CCCADI Firehouse until November 14, 2024. The exhibition is part of Lakay se Lakay: Our Black Nation, CCCADI’s year-long homage that celebrates the legacy of Haiti.
