Children’s Shakespeare Theatre present Antigone by Jean Anouilh, Adapted by Lewis Galantiere, a compelling classic play about questioning authority. Jean Anouilh’s play is a tragedy inspired by Sophocles’ Antigone (441 BC) and was first performed in Paris in 1944 during the Nazi occupation. Antigone, King Creon’s niece, decides she must bury her brother’s slain body against the wishes of the King. The play that follows is a stirring human drama and dialectic on the use and abuses of power and authority versus the integrity of the individual. Antigone, performed by a mixed ages group of children (ages 8 – 15), is the perfect way to launch Children Shakespeare Theatre’s 24th Season: The Season of Questioning Authority.
