Children’s Shakespeare Theatre Presents: Romeo & Juliet

Feb. 28 & March 1, March 7 & 8, 7 – 9 pm.
$25; $20 youth younger than18; free for teachers

Children’s Shakespeare Theatre presents the classic Romeo & Juliet. Romeo & Juliet is a cautionary tale for parents and authority figures. While many people remember the beautiful love story at the heart of the play, many forget the tragedy and violence that are also part of the tale. The traditional story of Romeo & Juliet has a parallel arc to those found in lesbian pulp magazines and novels of the 1950s: a forbidden love, rejected by their families, ending in death and despair. Despite the sad ending, people remembered the love from those novels. This production is similarly set as a lesbian love story with a mid-century backdrop.
