Civilian Combat Photography in WWII
Bayside Historical Society welcomes history enthusiast Eric Weil to the Castle in Fort Totten for an eye-opening presentation on WWII photography that will go beyond the more familiar photographic work of the Army Signal Corps. Eric Weil delves into the photography of the civilians — and the women correspondents in particular, many of whose photographs were overlooked as credit was given to the publishers rather than the individuals themselves. This presentation will highlight some of the iconic photos taken in WWII by civilians while bringing to life the photographers’ own stories. Attendees will also learn about some of the cameras that were used at that time and about the state of photography in the 1940’s.
