Minority Enterprise Development Week in New York State on Long Island 1st Day of Activities Oct. 10, 2023

October 10, 2023, 8 am1 pm.

New York, New York – Minority Enterprise Development Week will be held in New York State in the 2nd week of October of 2023 on Long Island.  The inaugural day of MEDWEEK will be held on October 10th, 2023.

On October 10th, 2023 the first scheduled day of MEDWEEK will begin at 8:00 am and end at 1:00 pm at Town of Hempstead Pavilion One Washington Street, Hempstead, New York 11550.

Minority Enterprise Development Week (MED Week) Offers a venue for minority-owned firms to access information, tools, and resources to grow their businesses both domestically and internationally through networking events, workshops, and issue forums.  The events that compose MED Week are meant to raise awareness among minority business owners, and the larger business community and support these businesses in their efforts to grow to scale.

The Long Island African American Chamber of Commerce, Inc. was founded in 2010 and is New York State’s Largest African American Chamber of Commerce and was named the Metro New York District of the United States Small Business Administration 2019 Small Business Champion for 14 counties in Downstate, New York.

LI African American Chamber of Commerce, Inc., a participating organization in the Community Navigator Pilot Program, is funded in part through United States Black Chamber’s grant with the U.S. Small Business Administration.

We are requesting all participants to register in advance for the 1st day to get all updates for MED Week 2023; as we anticipate increased participation as the event has gained momentum in New York, State.

A theme of MED Week each year is that Minority entrepreneurs can benefit from increased commitment of the federal and state governments to award contracts to them, but only if they first have a strong, well-organized operation, officials said at last year’s conference. In Newsday last year Charlene Thompson, President of Thompson Economic Development Services, LLC, a government contractor in Baldwin stated “We have a federal and a state government that has in mind to help small businesses, particularly those of us who have often been underserved, underrepresented.” She continued, “But we have to make sure that they are ready.”  There are corporate partners that can help you get your house in order.”  Thompson is an expert in government housing programs and a law professor at Hofstra University.

The goal of MED WEEK is to expand the capacity of small business owners and increase the scope and size of these business owners in order to scale them up to larger enterprises.

The ultimate goal for MED Week 2023 is to expand MED Week into a MED Month by 2026.
